Hurricane Ridge sits 17 miles up a mountain road inside Olympic National Park. The skiing is simple. The logistics are the adventure. Here is everything, in the order you’ll need it.
Saturdays, Sundays & Monday holidays · mid-December through March · lifts 10 AM–4 PM, weather permitting
Carry chains in all vehicles. Arrive early, the parking lot fills. There are no rentals on the mountain and no food service, so bring your own lunch. Lifts run 10 AM to 4 PM. Road report: 360-565-3131.

First timer
Start with a lesson
Book the 3-week group school or a private, rent gear in Port Angeles, and start on the bunny tow.
Family with kids
Ski school & the tube run
Kids’ group lessons, $24 tubing, free sledding for ages 8 & under, and 4th & 5th graders ride the season free.
Experienced rider
Small hill, big terrain
800 ft of vertical, glades and bowls off the Poma, a terrain park, and it’s rarely crowded mid-morning.
Here for snow play
You don’t need skis
Tubing, sledding, and miles of nordic trails and snowshoe routes with the same view.

Days before
Plan it from town
- Buy lift tickets online; walk-up lines are longest at opening.
- Rent skis or a board in Port Angeles; there are no rentals on the mountain.
- Book lessons by email; group sessions fill weeks out.
- Reserve a bed; 13 lodging partners offer Ridge discounts.
- No car or no chains? Olympic Hiking Company offers transportation to and from Hurricane Ridge during the winter.

The night before
Check, then pack
- Run the three checks: road, weather, webcam.
- Fill the gas tank; no services on the road up.
- Pack the bag and the car; full checklist below. Bring lunch: there is no food service on the Ridge.

The morning of
Chains in, early out
- Tire chains in every vehicle; required by the park, including 4WD and AWD.
- Leave generous time. On clear weekends and powder days the queue at the Heart O’ the Hills entrance can form by 7:30, and 8:45 is the safe target; the gate opens around 9.

The drive up
17 miles, one road
- From Port Angeles, turn south on Race Street. Hurricane Ridge Road climbs 17 miles to the lot.
- Uphill traffic runs 9 AM–4 PM and every vehicle must be back down by 5 PM.
- Entrance fee: $30 per vehicle / 7 days or $55 annual; federal passes honored.

On the Ridge
Park, check in, ride
- 175 summit spaces. When the lot fills, vehicles are held at the entrance until spots open.
- Lessons check in at the ticket booth; tubing passes are sold at the Mountain Operations Center ($24 / 10 runs, walk-up only).
- Lifts spin 10 AM–4 PM. Eat what you packed, pack out what you bring.
