KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
SAFETY AT THE RIDGE
A great day on the mountain starts with good decisions. Review the rules, understand the risks, and look out for one another.
CONDITIONS CHANGE QUICKLY
FOLLOW ALL POSTED SIGNS AND STAFF DIRECTION.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY CODE
Skiing and snowboarding involve risk. This code is a shared promise to stay alert, act responsibly, and help keep the mountain safer for everyone.
01
Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
02
People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
03
Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
04
Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
05
You must prevent runaway equipment.
06
Read and obey all signs, warnings and hazard markings.
07
Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
08
You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. Ask the lift attendant if you need assistance.
09
Do not use lifts or terrain while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
10
If you are involved in a collision or incident, share contact information with each other and a ski area employee.
KNOW AND OBEY THE CODE. IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
MOUNTAIN-SPECIFIC SAFETY
Some parts of Hurricane Ridge call for extra knowledge and care. Take a moment to understand them before heading out.
FREESTYLE TERRAIN
PARK SMART
Freestyle terrain parks and features expose skiers and riders to serious injury or death. Familiarize yourself with all instructions, warnings and the Responsibility Code.
START SMALL. MAKE A PLAN. ALWAYS LOOK. RESPECT. TAKE IT EASY.
LIFT SAFETY
RIDING THE POMA
The Poma ride is jerky, steep and not suitable for novices. Young children may be lifted off the ground, and the intermediate rope tow can move quickly in icy weather.
Keep a firm grip. Anyone unable to ride to the top may need to walk out — approximately 900 feet.
TREE WELL SAFETY
DEEP SNOW CAN SUFFOCATE
A fall into deep, unconsolidated snow or a tree well can immobilize and suffocate a skier or rider. This is known as Snow Immersion Suffocation.
Avoid tree wells. Always ride with a partner in viewing distance. Learn more at deepsnowsafety.org.
