Meet The Team

The locals behind the lifts, lessons and groomed runs, the people who make the Ridge feel like home.

Danielle Lawrence

Marketing Director

Danielle has been skiing at Hurricane Ridge since age five and later taught lessons there while serving on the Junior Ski Patrol. She continued teaching at Snoqualmie Pass while attending the University of Washington. Danielle joined the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club Board in 2009 and the Education Foundation Board in 2023. She remains an active skier and can often be found enjoying the Ridge.

Derek Leuzzi

Safety / Risk Management

Derek has been passionate about winter sports since he first started skiing at age three. After moving from Connecticut to Port Angeles as a teenager, he quickly fell in love with the Olympic Peninsula and its mountains by the sea. His experience spans skiing, snowboarding, and backcountry travel. Derek lives in Port Angeles with his wife and son and enjoys surfing, camping, and biking when he is not supporting Hurricane Ridge.

Gary Holmquist

Safety / Risk Management

Gary has been part of the Hurricane Ridge ski community for more than 35 years, serving in roles ranging from ski team parent coordinator to board member. He currently serves on the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation Board and has been a member of the Hurricane Ridge Ski Patrol since 2008. Gary is also a certified Avalanche Instructor and Mountain Travel and Rescue Instructor. He and his wife enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and traveling.

Todd Fischer

Public Relations / Marketing

Todd has called the Olympic Peninsula home for more than 30 years and has been skiing since age 16. A full-time artist for 17 years, his work is inspired by the region’s salt water and mountains. He serves on the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation board, contributing his artwork and design talents to fundraising and merchandise. Todd is also active with the Surfrider Foundation and serves as Creative Director for the Hub.

Joe Boucher

Operations and Education

Justin, an Olympic Peninsula native who learned to ski at Hurricane Ridge at age 6, returned after 20 years to pass the tradition to his own son. A lifelong adventurer, hiking, biking, surfing, and backcountry snowboarding, he now champions accessibility for kids and underserved communities, plus long-term sustainability, through the Hurricane Ridge Education Foundation.

Justin Mellon

Vice President

Justin, an Olympic Peninsula native who learned to ski at Hurricane Ridge at age 6, returned after 20 years to pass the tradition to his own son. Roger Oakes

Emeritus Board Member

Roger has been part of the Hurricane Ridge ski community since 1974, serving with several organizations dedicated to the Ridge over the decades. A Port Angeles native, he began skiing there in the 1950s and currently serves with the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation. Roger is also a retired family physician.
