Hurricane Ridge Ski Area FAQ

Q: Where can I rent ski or snowboard equipment?

A: There is no rental shop at the ski area, so plan ahead. In Port Angeles, North by Northwest is the only rental option. The next closest rental shop is Kitsap Sports in Bremerton.

Q: What should I wear and bring?

A: Dress in layers and prepare for changing mountain conditions including snow, wind, rain, or sun. Mittens or gloves are required. Helmets and goggles are highly encouraged for safety.

Q: What time does the gate open and how do I check road conditions?

A: The gate opens at 9 am. Check road status by calling 360-565-3131 or visiting the National Park website before you go.

Q: What should I know about parking?

A: Parking at Hurricane Ridge is limited. On sunny days with fresh snow, the lot can fill up as early as 10 am. When full, cars are held at the bottom of the road until spaces become available. Please note: refunds are not available if you miss your lesson due to being stuck at the gate.

Q: What do I need for my vehicle?

A: Tire chains are required by the park for all vehicles. You’ll also need to pay the National Park entrance fee.

Q: What happens if the road is closed due to weather?

A: If the road doesn’t open because of weather, you have the option to reschedule your lesson for a later date.

Q: Are there food options at the ski area?

A: No, there are no concessions at the ski area. Bring a packed lunch and snacks.

Q: Where do I check in for my lesson?

A: Check in at the ticket booth when you arrive. You’ll receive your lift tickets and directions to the ski school meeting location. Please be dressed in your winter gear with all equipment ready by your lesson time.
